Objective

Spotter's Guide (Schedule A · radio protocol)
In stock car racing the spotter stands on the roof of the grandstand with a radio and talks to the driver for four straight hours, because from inside the car the driver genuinely cannot see. It is the only job in motorsport that is entirely talking. He would be outstanding at it, and in every setting that is not a racetrack, he already is.
A spotter is not a commentator. Nobody is being entertained and nobody is keeping score — it is one person telling another person what they cannot see for themselves, continuously, for as long as it takes. He does that in conversation without being asked and without appearing to work at it.

Darlington is shaped the way it is because a man who owned the land refused to move his minnow pond, so one end was built tighter than the other and has stayed wrong ever since. The quick way round is hard against the outside wall, which means everyone who runs it well comes home with a long scrape of paint down the right side of the car. It is called the Darlington Stripe. Drivers do not apologise for it and they do not buff it out. His favourite track is the one that marks you for running it properly. Make of that what you will; he has, and he will tell you about it at length if you let him.

Is this a joke?
Yes. Also no. It's a joke that would be extremely pleased to be taken seriously by the right person.
Isn't NASCAR just left turns?
This is listed under Dealbreakers, and it is listed there sincerely. The short answer is that they are not the same left turn, that Darlington's two ends are different shapes, and that the road courses turn right. The long answer is available at any time and lasts as long as you let it.
Why Daniel Suárez?
Because in 2022 at Sonoma he became the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup race, in a sport that took an extremely long time to get there. Also because he is good. The order of those two reasons depends on who is asking.
Why Darlington?
Because it is shaped wrong on purpose, the fast way round is against the wall, and everybody who does it properly comes home with the paint to prove it. See Schedule B. He has more to say about this than the section contains.
Does he ever stop talking?
Yes — and this is the part people get wrong about him. He stops the moment somebody else has something to say, which is a different skill from talking and much rarer. The talking is what he does when nobody else will.
